Gmail for Android finally receives a feature that has been on iPhone for months

Gmail is Google’s email client that is hugely popular across desktops in addition to iOS and Android smartphones.

The software is regularly updated by the Mountain View firm to introduce new features to make the app more intuitive and provide it with fresh functionality.

However, new additions do not always arrive on all platforms at the same time.

Earlier this year, Gmail users on iPhone started reporting a feature they had received for the client that allowed them to switch accounts more easily.

When an individual is using Gmail on Apple’s mobile, a profile picture associated with their Google account will be displayed at the top of the phone’s display on the right-hand side.

Dating back to at least March this year, some users noticed that swiping up on this icon would allow them to switch between multiple accounts.

While the feature is subtle, it does allow a fan to transition between different accounts faster than if they were to navigate traditional menus.

Until now, the functionality had only been present on iPhone.

However, Android Police has reported the account switching feature is now available in version 2019.08.18 of Gmail for Android that is rolling out right now to smartphones.

If the update has not downloaded automatically, you should be able to obtain it by heading to the Play Store manually.

It appears the latest move from Google is part of an effort to bring such functionality to its range of apps.

Google Maps, Google Drive and Google Contacts were all noted by Android Police to similarly allow fans to switch between accounts with a simple gesture.

However, the functionality is certainly more useful in Gmail than those listed above.

That is because people more frequently have multiple email accounts that requires account manoeuvring.
