Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Mike Bushell issued warning by BBC bosses ahead of show launch

BBC Breakfast presenter Mike Bushell has become known for his on-air gaffes on the BBC News programme.

Mike infamously fell into a swimming pool last year during a live broadcast, much to the amusement of his colleagues.

Last night, for the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 launch, Mike shimmied his way on to the stage alongside fellow competitor Saffron Barker.

In light of his clumsy antics, Mike revealed that Strictly Come Dancing bosses have told him to watch where he’s going on stage to avoid any mishaps.

This morning on BBC Breakfast, he divulged the secrets behind his and Saffron’s entrance and the warnings he’s received.

Mike said: “Saffron’s only 19 but she’s a brilliant choreographer already and she told me what to do.

“I thought I’m going to do bit of sashay but then I thought ‘I’ll just go for a jump’ but as you saw the jump’s a bit high. Much higher than it was in rehearsal so it did go off the stage.

“I have been warned several times by Strictly not to get too near to the edge of things because of a certain incident involving a swimming pool.”

It was clear Mike had a good evening though as following the event he turned to Twitter to discuss it.

He tweeted: “What an incredible night. Thanks @bbcstrictly no pressure having to walk/dance out first with @SaffronBarker who’s ace and thanks for showing me some moves.

“This journey is going to be such fun. I’m up early in the back garden on @BBCBreakfast with just a gnome to dance with.”

Mike has unfortunately been tipped to be the first celeb to leave the programme.

Last week, Coral Bookmakers had Mike as the favourite to be the first out the door with odds of 3/1.

A spokesperson said: ”Nobody wants to be the first contestant eliminated from Strictly and sadly for the BBC Breakfast presenter, punters feel as though Mike Bushell will be the first to leave as they don’t have much faith in him on the dancefloor.”

Meanwhile, football pundit and former player Alex Scott looks like one of the front-runners for the contest.

The bookies have said Alex is the 5/1 favourite to win, with Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley following close behind.

Chris Ramsey could also be headed for victory as an outsider.

They said: “Alex Scott was full of skills on the football pitch during her glittering career and the betting suggests she will be equally as successful on the dancefloor as she is the clear favourite before the launch of the show to win the new series.

“Catherine Tyldesley has had her fair share of supporters in out betting, while Chris Ramsey is proving to be a lively outsiders with our punters,” added Hill.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on September 7.
