Cunard cruise ship hosts Hollywood experience with Meryl Streep – were you on board?

Cruise ship holidays are often associated with luxury, glamour, opulence and an experience akin to the celebrity lifestyle. The host of black tie restaurants, relaxation experiences and top notch travel adventures on board are landmarks for an A-List vacation. Guests can also plump for a prestigious standard of cabin with extra facilities, while some firms offer their own yacht and submarine for experiences. Yet one cruise ship company, Cunard, has notched the standards even higher.

Passengers travelling on one of Cunard’s routes from New York to Southampton were given an extra dose of glamour.

The firm’s luxury ocean liner Queen Mary 2, on a route through August, to the UK destination, was the centre of a Hollywood film on-board.

Oscar winning film-maker Steven Soderbergh, known for Oceans 11, Traffic and Behind the Candelabra, was directing a star-studded cast and crew who included Meryl Streep, Candice Bergen, Gemma Chan, Lucas Hedges and Dianne Wiest.

They were shooting for flick Let Them All Talk, a working title for the film which will no doubt hit screens soon.

Cunard passengers could also relish a taste of the action with the opportunities to appear in the movie as extras.

Simon Palethorpe, President of Cunard, said: “There is only one way to cross the Atlantic in style and that’s on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2.

“We’re delighted to have been hosting Steven Soderbergh, Meryl Streep and a star studded cast on our flagship for what will be an incredible movie.”

Meanwhile, Cunard are not the only cruise liner to add an extra star-studded sparkle to its routes.

Dancing on Ice professional duo Alexandra Schauman and Lucasz Rozycki will take to the ice on the seas as they take their skates on board Royal Caribbean ships.

The married couple, who both starred in the 2019 ITV series, will star on seven sailings on board Independence of the Seas, in news which is sure to delight cruise-bound TV fans.

A spokesperson for the cruise firm told Express.co.uk they would be “wowing guests alongside Royal Caribbean’s extraordinary ice cast to perform in the current production of Strings.”

The show centres on the enchanting tale of a missing Stradivari violin, with the duo adding extra celebrity flair.

The spokesperson revealed: “Guests will have the opportunity to do more than simply watch the show, they will also be able to enjoy meets and greets with the stars.”

In the 2019 DOI series, fronted by Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield, Alexandra was partnered with ex Strictly star James Jordan.

Meanwhile Lucasz, 39, was paired with Grease legend Didi Conn.

They will sail on routes across Europe, stopping off in counties including France, Spain and Italy, finishing on August 30.
