Louise Minchin: BBC Breakfast presenter reveals big news 'I started yesterday'

Louise Minchin, 50, previously released a book about her journey to becoming a triathlete. Yesterday, the BBC Breakfast favourite received a heartwarming message from a fan on Twitter who credited the book with helping motivate them to compete in the Great North Run 2019. “Just finished your book.” they said. “I’d almost decided to abandon my 4th Great North Run after falling way behind on my training this year. But inspired by the book I’m doing it!

“Need a sequel now for Norseman!” the fan added. “Inspiring read.”

Replying in view of her 163,000 Twitter followers, Louise made a big revelation about her next publication.

“Thank you,” she said, spilling: “I started writing it yesterday!”

“Look forward to it,” the fan wrote back.

Louise’s first book, Dare to Tri: My Journey from the BBC Breakfast Sofa to GB Team Triathlete, was shortlisted for The Telegraph Sports Health and Fitness Book of the Year Awards 2019.

It covered the presenter’s experiences from returning to sport just a few years ago to competing for Great Britain at the World Triathlon Championships.

Earlier this month, the BBC star completed the gruelling Norseman triathlon, which takes place in Norway and consists of a 2.5-mile swim from a car ferry to shore, a 112-mile bike ride into the mountains followed by a marathon.

It seems she is now set to turn her experience into another book, documenting the highs and lows of tackling the famously touch challenge.

Louise previously spoke out about doing Norseman, telling The Times her husband her husband told her after the race that he had seen grown men crying at the top of the final hill of the cycle ride.

Having braved the swim in the freezing sea, completed the cycle and embarked on the run, she recalled: “I set off on the marathon feeling remarkably OK.

“Again, that was until I was about six miles in, with 20 still to go, and the temperature rocketed to more than 30C.

“I was struggling, in pain, and not coherent enough to judge whether I was well enough to carry on,” she said.

“My support team found me, doused me with water, gave me a sugary drink, words of encouragement and sent me on my way.”

Louise managed to finish the Norseman in 16 hours and 46 minutes.

Elsewhere, she has been a staple member of the BBC Breakfast team since 2006.

Dan Walker, 42, joined her on the sofa in 2016 when he took over from Bill Turnbull, 63.

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
