According to a report from Page Six, two accusers involved in the Paul Haggis sexual assault case walked out in the middle of a deposition from his attornies. Court documents obtained by the outlet stated that the Crash director’s lawyers claim they either want to complete the two depositions in question or scrap their testimonies altogether.
The two anonymous women are intimately involved in Haleigh Breest’s rape allegations against Haggis. Paul’s lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, wrote that she vehemently was opposed to the walk-outs involving the two witnesses in question.
Moreover, Priya Chaudhry said she reached out to their lawyers and requested to finish the depositions, however, they haven’t gotten a response back. Her papers filed in court described the case as a two-year-long smear campaign against Mr. Haggis, and she’ll need all of the information to make a fair defense.
Paraphrasing Chaudhry’s statement released on Friday, Priya claimed the plaintiff, as well as the two “false-accusers”, are doing what they can to keep the truth from getting out. Emma Freeman, on the other hand, who is the lawyer for Breest, claimed that Haggis and his lawyer had a fair opportunity to depose both of the women.
As it was previously reported, Breest filed a lawsuit against the filmmaker back in 2017 claiming that on the 31st of January in 2013, they met at a movie premiere and went back to his apartment on Mercer Street where he raped her.
Haggis has claimed the encounter was consensual from the beginning. Paul, who’s known also for screen-writing Million Dollar Baby, counter-sued Breest for defamation, however, the judge threw this case out previously.
Since the allegations came out, approximately four more women accused him of sexual misconduct. As most know, this won’t be the first time a Hollywood figure has been accused of sexual transgressions.
