This Christmas sees the release of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. A film set a year after the events of The Last Jedi. And now Disney and Lucasfilm have shared an official timeline showing when their upcoming Disney Plus shows are set in relation to the movies. Snapped during a panel at the D23 Expo, the timeline spanned from Episode I: The Phantom Menace to beyond The Rise of Skywalker. But interestingly the latter was not at the end of the timeline, but 13 years behind the 80-year mark.
Spotted by Screen Rant, could this mean that The Rise of Skywalker has a time jump ending set 13 years after the rest of the film?
After all, Star Wars: Episode IX is the conclusion to the Skywalker Saga, so perhaps it warrants one?
Of course, the other option is that Disney have currently unannounced plans for beyond The Rise of Skywalker.
There’s similarly a huge three-decade gap between The Mandalorian – set soon after Return of the Jedi – and the sequel trilogy’s beginning.
Let’s not forget that Lucasfilm have two more Star Wars trilogies in the works.
One is being helmed by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson and the other by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss.
The settings for both are currently unknown and yet Disney have confirmed that three new Star Wars movies will release Christmas 2022, 2024 and 2026.
Could the dates be for one trilogy or a mixture of the two? Whatever the case, perhaps one or both could be set in those big timeline gaps?
