Rachel Riley: Countdown star urges co-host to apologise after startling discovery

Rachel Riley, 33, seemed stunned after Countdown host Nick Hewer, 75, claimed he would take “45 quid” to ditch his best friend. The presenter appeared to be unimpressed with her co-star’s revelation as she suggested he should apologise for “selling his friends off cheap”. The pair got onto the subject on the Channel 4 show when Nick said: “Personally, I’d get rid of my best mate for about 45 quid.” Rachel took issue with the TV personality’s statement, as she replied: “I think men just want more money.

“Often you choose your partner as your best friend, don’t you?

“So stereotyping, if it’s the man, they’d also be losing their cook and their cleaner and their personal secretary and their social secretary.

“So they’ve got a lot more to lose than if a woman loses her husband, who might just sit on the sofa.”

Considering the pregnant star’s argument, Nick admitted: “Perhaps, that’s one argument.

“But nonetheless if I said to my mate, ‘Listen, they’ve asked me to dump you and they’re prepared to give me £180,000 but I’ll split it with you’, he’d be pleased, I’d be pleased.

“If somebody gave me £90,000 for cutting loose a chap that I’ve known since I was at kindergarten, fine.”

Taking a snap with Hannah Fry, 35, on the set of the Channel 4 show, she put her pregnant figure on full display in the bodycon outfit.

The Countdown favourite, who is expecting her first baby with her husband Pasha Kovalev, 39, in December, wore her blonde tresses straight and accessorised with a pair of heels.

Rachel joked about the length of her “on screen pregnancy” in the caption of the photo.

She wrote: “The UK’s leading female mathematician, and me!

“Loved Hannah Fry’s stories today, absolute proof maths is cool. QED.”

The star went on to explain the episode she filmed with Hannah will be airing at the end of November.

“On screen the last week of November, as part of my elephant-esque length on screen pregnancy,” Rachel quipped.

Countdown airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 2.10pm while 8 out of 10 Does Countdown airs tonight at 9pm on the same channel.
