Chelsea XI: Arrizabalaga, Emerson, Christensen, Zouma, Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount, Pulisic, Abraham, Barkley

  • Norwich boss Daniel Farke names an unchanged side from Newcastle victory
  • Pedro pulls up injured during warm-up – Ross Barkley starts instead

NORWICH 0-0 CHELSEA

3: Chelsea started like a train against Leicester last Sunday. Not as much pressing in the early stages this afternoon – looks like the travelling Blues will ease their way into proceedings today.

NORWICH 0-0 CHELSEA

1: Ready? Good. We’re underway at Carrow Road. Incidentally, with Ross Barkley replacing Pedro, this is Chelsea’s youngest starting XI in a Premier League match since February 1994, in a 1-2 defeat at Oldham Athletic (24y 190d).

Injury!

12:25: Not the start Frank Lampard wanted. Pedro has pulled up during the warm up with what appears to be a hamstring injury. He’s not going to feature today. Ross Barkley comes in instead.

History

12:23: Well history is certainly on Chelsea’s side today. The Blues are on a 15-match unbeaten run against Norwich in all competitions.

The Canaries have only taken two points from 10 Premier League meetings with Chelsea.

Twitter round-up

Areba: Is it just me or is anyone else thinking this Chelsea team looks pretty average and won’t be anywhere near the top four,or even the top six, this season? To start with,Norwich aren’t going to be pushovers today.

Sulaimon Adelekan: Chelsea Fans won’t care if it’s Tammy Abraham or Giroud up front, all they want is a win and I am sure if a win doesn’t come today, Frank Lampard will start feeling the heat.

#LampardOut: I’m actually livid that Lampard doesn’t start Michy. Incredible. This guys been overlooked by every Chelsea manager that he’s worked for. If you’re not gonna use him sell him. Surely I’m not the only one that sees that Michy is actually class and EASILY our best striker?

I’m afraid I don’t know the real identity of #LampardOut. Wonder what he thinks of the new Chelsea boss…

Stop what you’re doing…

12:15: And watch the video above. Its quite simply the greatest own goal ever recorded. You’re welcome.

Tammy’s pace…

12:10: Chelsea manager Frank Lampard: “Mateo Kovacic has been playing well so is an easy replacement [for N’Golo Kante]. Bringing in Abraham was a choice, Tammy’s mobility to play and cause Norwich problems was what I was thinking of.

“I know Norwich very well from last season and they have started well this year. Teemu Pukki is a huge threat but so are many of their other players.”

He’s more than a goal machine

12:05: Does he need to be? Norwich boss Daniel Farke certainly believes that striker Teemu Pukki has a well-rounded skill set – but doesn’t care about the Golden Boot. I suspect Teemu doesn’t feel the same way about the Golden Boot.

“It’s not about individual statistics but team statistics,” Farke said.

“Teemu is important not only because of goals, but assists and team-work. I’m not interested if he gets the Golden Boot, it’s about the team getting points.”

Countdown

12:00: Just 30 minutes until kick off folks. I know you like a weather report so here’s my Michael Fish impression. [Adjust weather presenter depending on age].

It’s glorious. Sun in the sky, 26 degrees and a delightful little breeze.

The youth

11:55: The average age of Chelsea’s starting XI against Norwich today is 25 years and 54 days – the Blues’ youngest in a Premier League match since November 2012 against West Brom under Roberto Di Matteo (24y 261d).

It’s all the rage, folks. Manchester United have named their youngster side twice in the opening two fixtures.

The oldest? That honour goes to Watford closely followed by Crystal Palace.

How’s it gone for Frank?

11:50: Tough question. Not sure why I asked myself.

Obviously on results a thumping defeat to Manchester United and a draw against Leicester at Stamford Bridge isn’t great.

However, they haven’t been terrible performances – especially without Eden Hazard on the books and a difficult transfer ban to contend with.

Chelsea are pressing higher, creating more opportunities and generally have been more pleasing on the eye going forward.

Do you agree? I look forward to your constructive feedback through the usual channels – Twitter, Facebook or Homing pigeon.

Twitter reaction

Jack: Someone tell Frank Lampard we not going to get different results when we are playing Tammy Abraham. Get Michy Batshuayi on the second half. Please!

Erik: Kurt Zouma, Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount?! Yeah, we’re getting slapped.

Jaycee: Frank Lampard has to get a starting XI soon. You can’t be switching strikers every match and get a result. You need consistency!

Feels a bit harsh on Tammy. Don’t get me wrong – I’d have started Giroud but he’s looked bright in limited starts.

Team News – Chelsea

11:40: Two changes for Chelsea. Tammy Abraham and Mateo Kovacic come in for Olivier Giroud and N’Golo Kante.

Mason Mount (who I’ve added to my fantasy football side this week) continues alongside Pedro and Christian Pulisic in behind with Kovacic and Jorginho holding.

Team news – Norwich

11:35: If it ain’t broke – don’t fix it. Daniel Farke keeps the same line-up that defeated Newcastle last weekend.

Defender Timm Klose is on the bench and could make his first appearance of the season.

What’s on…

11:25: Quite a busy afternoon of football on the agenda today actually. Obviously we’re kicking things off in Alan Partridge country – but the rest is as follows.

Brighton vs Southampton, Manchester United vs Crystal Palace, Sheffield United vs Leicester, Watford vs West Ham.

The evening match is a cracker too as Arsenal travel to Anfield, where they’ve conceded 22 in their last six games. Just the 22. Only 22. Twenty-bloody-two.

Morning!

11:20: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

We’re at Carrow Road today to see whether Frank Lampard can register his first competitive victory as Chelsea manager.

When the fixtures were released, it looked a banker.

But after Norwich’s good second-half display at Anfield, their demolition of Newcastle, Teemu Pukki’s hat-trick – I’m not so sure.

That’s my little introduction done. Wasn’t my best. I’ll give it everything I’ve got in my hungover locker to entertain you as the afternoon continues…
