Man Utd boss Solskjaer gives injury update on Martial and Shaw after Crystal Palace loss

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial will return to training in the week after both players picked up knocks against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

United suffered their first defeat of the season to Roy Hodgson’s side who took the lead in the first half through Jordan Ayew.

Marcus Rashford spurned a chance to draw level from the penalty spot but United did equalise one minute from time thanks to Daniel James.

Solskjaer’s men were left despondent moments later, however, as Patrick van Aanholt’s effort beat David de Gea at his near post in added time.

The loss was exacerbated by the fact Luke Shaw had to be withdrawn following the opening goal as he pulled up after a sprint.

“We’ll do the scans tomorrow but he felt something in his hamstring,” said Solskjaer in his press conference.

“Hopefully, it won’t be too bad and I hope he is going to be back for Southampton [next Saturday].”

Elsewhere, Martial was moving gingerly in the final moments of the game but could not be replaced as Solskjaer had already made three changes.

Speaking about the Frenchman, Solskjaer said: “We’ll have to wait and see.

“Hopefully they won’t be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.”

The Norwegian went on to explain the unexpected defeat, saying: “We just were not clinical enough in front of goal and they scored two very easy goals.

“I thought we got our act together second half, we just couldn’t hit the target. We have dominated the game but we have not controlled it.”
