Brexit boost as Macron begs for help with the economy: ‘We need some new tools!’

Mr Macron made the remarks as he met US President Donald Trump ahead of the G7 summit in Biarritz. This is Trump’s fourth international visit to France, having visited Colleville for D-Day commemorations earlier this year, Paris for Armistice Day’s 100th anniversary last year and Bastille Day in 2017. As reported by Mail Online, Mr Macron said: “When I look at Europe, especially, we need some new tools to relaunch our economy.

Trump said he was unhappy with Mr Macron’s digital tax which had hit US tech companies.

He insisted: “I don’t like what France did. They put a digital tax on our tech companies.

“Those are great American companies, and frankly, I don’t want France going out and taxing our companies, very unfair.”

Mr Macron said he hoped the summit would give the pair the opportunity to discuss “how to fix the situation in terms of trade”.

The other members of the Group of Seven are Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and Britain.

Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker also attend the summit as presidents of the European Council and Commission respectively.

The US will host 2020’s G7 summit.

2021 will see the event visit the UK for the first time since 2013.
