Lucy Versamy: ‘Far from reliable’ ITV weather star warns fans about 'misleading' news

ITV forecaster Lucy Verasamy, 38, often delivers the latest weather news on-screen and on her social media pages.

Last week, she told her 161,000 followers why meteorologists do not rely on weather apps on mobile phones.

She said: “There’s a reason weather forecasters/meteorologists don’t use weather apps themselves: far from reliable & often misleading.”

Lucy also warned her fans to not be “fooled” by rain predictions, which are also often seen on apps.

She added: “And same with the [per cent] chance of rain: don’t be fooled – there’s no context.”

Many of the star’s fans flocked to her post to share their thoughts on the information.

One user humorously wrote: “I use my head out the window app.”

Another queried: “Aren’t weather apps updated by meteorologists and weather forecasters?”

Lucy replied: “No. All automated/computer generated data.”

A third wrote: “The iPhone app is the worst ever. According to mine it’s going to rain for the next 3 years.”

But, Lucy corrected the Twitter user and responded: “iPhone app is Apple = American data so configured for the US. Not the UK.”

Elsewhere, Lucy shared good news about the upcoming bank holiday weekend on Twitter yesterday.

The brunette beauty uploaded a post from weather forecaster MetDesk, which insisted most of the UK can expect warm temperatures this week.

The post read: “It is likely to turn very warm or even hot this weekend, with plenty of dry and sunny weather around.

“Here are the potential highs on both Saturday and Sunday… #BankHolidayWeekend.”

Lucy captioned the post: “A bank holiday bonus!! Temperatures on the up.”

The star later made a reference to the expected hot temperatures by sharing a picture of dogs chilling on a beach wearing sunglasses.

But it appears as though her followers didn’t understand the reference as she later posted: “No one got the reference then: sizzle sizzle!”

After the latter post, many of her fans guessed what Lucy meant, with many insisting she was making a reference to hot dogs.

Last week, Lucy Verasamy also made an admission about the summer, which appeared to surprise her fans.

Following a recent rain fall across the UK, she wrote: “Everyone knows summer gets going again in September.”
