Star Wars: When is Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney Plus series going to be set?

Last week Deadline revealed that Ewan McGregor was in talks to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi, in what is believed to be a Disney Plus limited series. The Star Wars actor last played the Jedi Master in 2005’s Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith. So just when will his comeback be set in the Star Wars timeline? Well considering he’s aged 14 years since he last played the role, the relatively unexplored 19-year gap between Episodes III and IV is the most obvious area.

According to Star Wars canon, Obi-Wan was in exile during this period, watching over Luke Skywalker growing up on Tatooine.

With a two-decade gap, that’s plenty of time for new adventures before McGregor’s incarnation turns into the older Sir Alec Guinness version.

Most notably, Obi-Wan fought and killed Dark Maul two years before Episode IV: A New Hope in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.

Just who else could he have come across during this period?

The tease is found in a preview of Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi by Marc Sumerak.

The new book, released in November, chronicles the history of the Jedi Order and is written from Luke Skywalker’s perspective.

One section reads: “That knowledge was then passed down to a select few, including Obi-Wan, Yoda and my father.

“Their spirits guided me for many years but vanished when I shut myself off from the Force. It’s a relief to feel their presence again after all this time.”

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
