According to a report from Page Six, Irv Gotti, who has been a friend of Jay-Z for a long time, claims the rapper appears to be a victim of political manipulation amid his recent NFL partnership. The 4:44 rapper stirred up controversy last week after he struck a deal with the commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell.
Jay-Z is helping the league with their “social justice campaign” following the Colin Kaepernick controversy. In a conversation with Page Six reporters, Irv insinuated that it looked as though Roger Goodell was using Jay-Z as a way of rehabilitating the league’s image.
Irv said to reporters from the outlet that it looked like the NFL “manufactured and manipulated” the rapper to be in front of their campaign, knowing that the iconic chart-topper has enough of an influence to help rehabilitate the public’s perception of the NFL.
Gotti claimed it was a great move on the NFL’s part, stating that the whole thing was like a “masterminded plan.” Gotti has a show coming out on the 29th of August, on WE tv, called Growing Up Hip-Hop: New York.
As it was previously reported, the NFL found themselves receiving considerable criticism after Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem and was subsequently fired three years ago in 2016.
The incident sparked debates regarding when it was appropriate to protest, as well as the issue of race relations in the United States. Donald Trump got involved as well and claimed the NFL should fire players who don’t stand during the playing of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
Kaepernick later sued the NFL, but his grievance with the league was withdrawn after both parties came to a confidential agreement. Irv has been very vocal in the past few months, especially in the case of social justice causes.

Gotti was one artist who came out in defense of Lil Nas X following the “Old Town Road” rapper’s revelation that he was gay. Irv said to reporters that things have changed a lot in the last twenty years. In the past, the hip-hop and black community wouldn’t have been so open-minded, but times have changed, and they welcome him with open arms now.
