Mindhunter returned to Netflix in 2019 with the second season of the hit crime drama. Season two introduced a new crop of real-life serial killers adapted for the series to be interviewed by Agent Holden Ford (played by Jonathan Groff) and Agent Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) and Son of Sam (Oliver Cooper) delivers an intriguing account. Cooper’s performance as Berkowitz is undoubtedly one of the most convincing of the series and it’s not the first time he’s impressed on-screen.
Who plays David Berkowitz on Mindhunter?
The Son of Sam killer is played by 30-year-old American actor Oliver Cooper.
Cooper only appears in one episode of Mindhunter season two but he certainly leaves a lasting impression.
Mindhunter is his latest big-name role after a career spanning eight years has seen him land parts in some of Hollywood’s biggest titles.

Cooper’s breakout role came in 2012 when he starred opposite BAFTA-nominee Miles Teller in teen comedy Project X.
The year after saw Cooper star in The Hangover Part III as a Pharmacy Assistant.
He also landed a recurring role in popular Showtime series Californication as Levon.
Back on the big screen, Cooper’s recognisable for appearance in Office Christmas Party, Mojave and Burying the Ex.

On the small screen, Cooper’s CV includes titles like ABC sitcom The Goldbergs, YouTube original Good Game and Amazon Prime series Red Oaks.
Add to the list Valley of the Boom and it’s easy to see why Mindhunter bosses wanted Cooper on-board.
He’s also not the only newcomer to the cast of the Netflix Original in season two.
Berkowitz joins the likes of Assistant Director Ted Gunn (Michael Cerveris), Kay Manz (Lauren Glazier), Charles Manson (Damon Herriman) and Tanya Clifton (Sierra Aylina McClain) as new Mindhunter characters.

Who is David Berkowitz?
David Berkowitz was a New York-based serial killer who took the lives of six people and wounded seven more between 1976 and 1977.
Berkowitz targeted younger females and couples, more often than not while in their cars.
The killer put his behaviour down to voices from demons.
One demon he believed came from his neighbour’s dog, Sam, earning him the monicker Son of Sam.
He’s currently 66-years-old and is serving six life sentences.
