Meghan Markle travel: Holiday like Duke and Duchess of Sussex in Nice, France

Meghan Markle, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, certainly did royal family holidaying in style as they travelled to and from Nice by private jet, reported to cost around £20,000. It was their second holiday in a short space of time, after travelling to Ibiza in a similar private plane last week. The pair were accompanied by their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, on the 12-seater Cessna Citation Sovereign in a move which came under great scrutiny. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have previously expressed their concerns for the environment, yet their transport choice appeared to some a stark contrast to their words.

Yet what might have attracted the couple to the stunning French Riviera hotspot, and how can Britons recreate the trip minus a private jet?

Luckily for those everyday, non-royal Brits, they can save cash on their trip to France’s south coast by flying with budget airlines easyJet and Ryanair.

These offer super-cheap journeys at a fraction of the price of a private jet, from airports across the country.

Express.co.uk did a search from London airports to Nice for dates in February 2020, and found a return trip with easyJet, whose hand luggage limitations were recently clarified, could be booked for as little as £59.

Harry and Meghan are said to have stayed in a “secluded villa”, according to MailOnline, but by booking ahead UK travellers could save cash on pricey hotel room fees.

Website AirBandB offers loft apartments from around £60 a night for two, with guests at the heart of the town.

It is unclear whether the new parents are still in Nice on holiday, or have returned to the UK.

It has also not been clarified whether the pair stayed in their luxury accommodation or ventured to soak up the sights of the popular holiday resorts.

Website the crazytourist.com flagged the best things for tourists to do while in the attractive spot.

They stated: “There are seaside walks, and then there’s the Promenade des Anglais, which is more than just a grand walkway next to the Mediterranean: It’s been an integral part of Nice city life (something the recent attack won’t change) since this embankment was built in the 1820s.

“Parades for the ebullient Nice Carnival come by in February, while the rest of the year joggers, couples skateboarders and families pass all day long.

“The promenade bends for seven kilometres, and on the eastern side is skirted by regal 19th-century palaces.

“You can take a seat on the benches and find shade beneath pergolas and palm trees.”

Meanwhile, despite taking a private jet for this trip, Prince Harry has in the past boarded a Wizz Air flight from Luton to Transylvania in 2012.

Prince Philip, who is Prince Harry’s grandfather, has previously made clear his feelings on flying in Economy Class.

The Queen’s husband, 97, described the prospect as simply “ghastly”.
