Liverpool set to miss out on cash windfall as Philippe Coutinho swaps Barcelona for Bayern

Coutinho has made the switch to the Bundesliga, initially on a season-long loan, after struggling at the Nou Camp.

The Brazilian joined Barcelona from Liverpool last January with the Catalan giants paying an initial £105million for Coutinho.

However a number of add-ons were included in the deal as Liverpool looked to maximise their funds.

Those add-ons included £18m when Coutinho played 100 games for Barcelona and £5m if the La Liga giants won the Champions League with the Brazilian in the side.

However with Coutinho joining Bayern, who will have an option to buy at the end of the season, it seems Liverpool will not receive that cash.

Bayern have paid a £7.8m (€8.5m) loan fee for Coutinho, 27, and will have to cough up £110m (€120m) next summer if they want to make the move permanent.

Bayern will also pay Coutinho’s wages in full.

And Coutinho has revealed he’s delighted to join Bayern after a torrid spell in La Liga.

“For me, this change represents a new challenge in a new country at one of the best clubs in Europe,” he said.

“I am really looking forward to this.

“I have big goals, like Bayern, and I’m sure I can do it with my new team-mates.”

Coutinho had been linked with a move back to the Premier League with Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham all reportedly interested.

However Bayern have finally managed to prise the Brazilian from the Nou Camp.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic added: “Coutinho made it very clear during our talks in Barcelona that he was adamant about moving to FC Bayern.

“He is a world-class footballer with outstanding technical ability and is a versatile attacking option.”

Coutinho could make his Bayern debut on Saturday against Schalke in the Bundesliga.
