Drew Barrymore Eyes Daytime Talk Show Following Santa Clarita Diet Cancelation

Drew Barrymore is looking to get into the daytime talks show business following the cancelation of Santa Clarita Diet.

The talented actress has reportedly already filmed a pilot for CBS, that would allow her to join the ranks of Kelly Clarkson, Wendy Williams and of course Ellen DeGeneres. Variety was the first to break the news Barrymore is looking to embark on a new television venture.

She recently shot a pilot for CBS Television Distribution and hopes it will get picked up for the 2020/21 television season. If the daytime show does get picked up, Barrymore is also on board to executive produce her first forte into the talk show world.

Along with her hit Netflix series ending, Barrymore just wrapped up a stint as a judge on The World’s Best. The CBS reality TV show is still being considered for a second season.

The Charlie’s Angels alum attempted to break into the daytime talk show biz back in 2016. She was reportedly in talks with Warner Brothers to host a show, but it never came to fruition.

Variety claims that at the time there was a lukewarm response from television stations to pick up the syndicated show. The website is now insisting CBS’s syndication reportedly has high hopes for interest in a project led by Barrymore. Powers that be are convinced teaming up with the actress will be a win for all parties involved.

There is a growing trend in the daytime television world in terms of attaching big Hollywood names to projects. Kelly Clarkson will headline her own show this Fall for NBC/Universal. Tamron Hall, the former Today co-host, is also set to helm her own show this Fall for Disney/ABC. Meredith Vieira will return to the game show business this Fall too. She is set to host 25 Words or Less for Fox Television Stations.

Drew Barrymore has not responded to reports she has filmed a daytime talk show pilot for CBS Television Distribution. A spokesperson for the CBS has not commented on the news either.

Even if her forte into the daytime talk show business doesn’t work out again, the actress is keeping herself busy working behind the scenes. She is an executive producer on TLC’s Rattled, VH1’s Tough Love, as well as the upcoming Charlie’s Angels film.
