Coronation Street spoilers: Aggie Bailey devastated as family's tragic secret revealed

The family had to downsize as they moved to Coronation Street because they had run into financial troubles.

Aggie (played by Lorna Laidlaw) believed it was her eldest son Michael (Ryan Russell) who was to blame because of his money-making schemes.

Next week on the ITV soap, Aggie is bemused after her card is refused.

She doesn’t know why she’s running so low on cash until her husband Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) comes clean about his worrying secret.

He tells Aggie that he’s got a gambling addiction and he was the one to blame for all their losses.

Aggie actress Lorna has revealed there are “heartbreaking” scenes yet to unfold for the clan as Ed’s issues come to light.

“Ed has got a gambling addiction. He’s gambled before, and promised he’d never do it again,” Lorna told Digital Spy.

“That’s why Michael took the responsibility on his shoulders and took the blame for Ed. It’s a lovely thing for a son to do really, to take that massive thing, because he does not want his mum and dad to split up, which is so sweet. But Ed lost the house and it all gets revealed, really slowly.

“A card gets declined then it starts to escalate. When it is all revealed, it’s absolutely heartbreaking.”

While Aggie looks set to stand by her husband, Lorna did divulge that the matriarch will leave for a short period to think things through.

“She needs space just to compute everything,” Lorna said. “What do we want and what do we need to make this right again? I don’t think you can do that in the home situation. You need to get yourself out of it.”

But what will their neighbours think of them as the family’s secret is exposed?

Elsewhere on the Street, there’s family drama for Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) as he’s learnt Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) may well be his daughter.

It transpires that her mother is Fiona Middleton (Angela Griffin) whom Steve was involved in the late 90s, just around the time Emma would’ve been conceived.

Emma knows the man who raised her was not her biological father after he admitted it on his death bed.

However, she doesn’t know that Steve could actually be her dad and she isn’t interested in finding out who her real father is.

Emma actress Alexandra appeared on Loose Women on Friday where she spoke about the storyline.

She told the panellists: “I know, I just can’t believe it. The McDonalds are classic Corrie aren’t they?

“So for me to get a taste of that… well it’s amazing!”

Coronation Street continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV.
