Piers Morgan Twitter: GMB host spills on Simon Cowell’s ‘obnoxious’ backstage remark

Piers Morgan, 54, was a judge on the first series of the show alongside Brandy Norwood, 40, and David Hasselhoff, 67.

The outspoken journalist replaced Simon Cowell, 59, while he was busy with American Idol.

Earlier this month, the host took to Twitter to share an article about the success and viewing figures of this year’s America’s Got Talent.

Within the piece, the author said the talent show had raked in nine million viewers on the first live show, reportedly beating rival shows.

Piers shared the article in view of his 6.7 million followers with the caption: “Great piece on @AGT – amazing to see it still powering away 13yrs after Simon Cowell wished me good luck for the launch episode with the immortal words: ‘Just be yourself Piers – cocky & obnoxious.’

“Had a lot of fun on this show,” he added alongside a thumbs up emoji.

Many of Piers’ fans flocked to his page to comment, with one writing: “It’s a great show, it is way more uplifting than politics 24/7.”

“Great concept at the time. It’s the anti talent show that lets real people have a go,” a second added.

A third added: “You did a good job.”

After his debut on the panel, Piers was invited back to judge contestants on the show for a further five series.

The journalist was also on the Britain’s Got Talent panel alongside Amanda Holden, 48, and Simon from 2007 to 2010.

Earlier this year during the most recent series, a fan tweeted Piers to ask how much money he would accept to return to the show.

The Twitter user wrote: “Mate how much would it take to get you back on Britain’s Got Talent?”

“Get rid of [David] Walliams. I’ll pay,” he replied.

He then jokingly said he would return for £5 million and “and the use of Cowell’s Bentley”.

Piers took a light-hearted swipe at the show during an episode of Good Morning Britain earlier this year.

In a conversations with his co-star Susanna Reid, Piers asked: “When were the highest ratings for Britain’s Got Talent?

“Oh I remember, it’s when I was on it – 20.3 million people watched the Susan Boyle (2009’s runner-up) final.

“It’s about half that now,” the presenter added.

Piers then said to the camera: “Simon, I’m available to boost those ratings.

“If you wanna get a bit of the old Good Morning Britain magic, just write a big cheque baby.”

The current Britain’s Got Talent judging line-up consists of Simon, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.
