Peter Fonda has died at age 79. The iconic actor, whose father is Hollywood legend Henry Fonda, passed away on Friday after suffering respiratory failure due to his battle with lung cancer.
His family, including older sister Jane Fonda, announced the sad news in a statement to People magazine.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away. He passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 16, at 11:05 am at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family. The official cause of death was respiratory failure due to lung cancer. In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy,” it read.

The famous family also asked those who knew Peter to help them celebrate his incredible life. He was a beloved staple in Hollywood, which is proven by the outpouring of tributes in his honor.
Social media became flooded with messages honoring Peter and expressing their condolences for Jane.
“My heart goes out to Jane over the loss of her brother. Peter Fonda was a revolutionary filmmaker during a revolutionary time. Born in the house I now live in, his spirit will be missed,” Tweeted Direct Rob Reiner.
