From December until April, the picturesque village of Courchevel 1850, is the ski capital of the French Alps. All of the Three Valleys ski area is accessible from its lifts, and it boasts some of the best apres ski entertainment in the Alps.

Grand Hotel Rond Point des Pistes is a family friendly chalet hotel with access directly onto the piste. The roaring fire, home from home furniture, and quirky artworks featuring Scandinavian trolls create a cosy, laid back atmosphere where you can happily wander about in your salopettes and socks. No one stands on ceremony here, so you are really able to chill out.
Who for
Grand Hotel Rond Point des Pistes is best suited to families who have come to ski in The Three Valleys. It is an incredibly relaxed hotel where no one is going to worry if your kids tromp through in their boots or leave a trail of melting ice.
The communal lounge area is huge, with plenty of squashy sofas and an open fire, so when you come off the slopes in the evening it’s an ideal spot to gather together and play board games or watch a film.
Accommodation
Rooms at Grand Hotel Rond Point des Pistes are generally on the small side but comfortable, and have everything you need for your stay. Our Grand Confort room had gorgeous views over the snow covered rooftops of Courchevel and towards the mountains beyond, and the heating was so effective that we could paddle about the room in only our thermal layers.
Families staying at at Grand Hotel Rond Point des Pistes can opt for the top floor Family Room, which is more spacious and sleeps four people in a double and two single beds. This room has its own balcony, and some of the best views of Courchevel 1850.
All rooms at the hotel have a well equipped bathroom with a bath and a shower, plus satellite TV and a DVD player.
The troll themed artworks which decorate each room in the hotel are not to everyone’s taste, but often quite amusing.
Food and Drink
Breakfast is included with every stay at Grand Hotel Rond Point des Pistes, and it is served buffet style in the hotel’s large restaurant. Pick a table by the window so you can look out at the mountains whilst you eat.
There’s a mixture of English and continental breakfast foods, both hot and cold, which will set you up for an energetic day out and about.
In the evening, the restaurant is lit by candles, which makes the atmosphere significantly more romantic. Many of the guests choose to dine here as the hotel offers a competitively priced half board option. The chef uses plenty of local ingredients from France’s Savoie region, and there are some good wines on the menu, too.
If you do want to splash out and eat out one evening, Michelin starred Le Chabichou and its more affordable sister restaurant Le Chabotté are right next door.
Facilities
For a relatively small hotel, Grand Hotel Rond Point des Pistes is surprisingly well equipped with facilities. Skiers will make good use of the heated boot room, and in the basement there is a gym and a spa.
Highlights of the spa are the Turkish steam bath, sauna, and massage room, all of which come into their own if you have over exerted yourself on the ski slopes and need to revive your tired muscles.

What’s Nearby
Grand Hotel Rond Point des Pistes is a ski in, ski out hotel, so in winter all you have to do is pull on your skis and take off down the slope to the ski lifts of Courchevel 1850. This gives you access to the entirety of The Three Valleys, the largest linked ski area in the world.
If skiing and snowboarding aren’t really your thing, the village of Courchevel 1850 has a number of other attractions.
The Forum was built to house the ice skating rink for the 1992 Winter Olympics, and it’s now a fantastic venue to watch ice hockey, concerts, and live spectacles. The complex also has a bowling alley, climbing wall, and a good selection of cafes and shops.
