Spelunky 2 Delayed Out Of 2019

It’s been all quiet on the Spelunky 2 front since it was announced, as the sequel to what is considered one of the most tightly-designed rogue-lites out there has been hotly anticipated. Aside from a trailer one year ago, there hasn’t been much information, leading people to believe the game would not be hitting its projected 2019 release. As the year winds down, that fear has been confirmed, as the developers have confirmed the game won’t release this year.

Mossmouth’s Derek Yu announced on Twitter today that the game would not be making its hopeful 2019 date.

Yu goes on to describe the improvements being made since the game’s trailer last August, like adding more detail to the graphics, though he says compression in the video made a lot of the existing details hard to say. He also adds that the developers realize the silence from their end doesn’t look great, but they assure fans that no news is good news and it simply means they’re all hard at work.

While they did not indicate if this means a 2020 release or further out, Yu did say that they are fairly close, and will announce a release date when they know it. Spelunky 2 is currently targeting the PlayStation 4 and PC.
