The former First Lady revealed the “deeply personal” thoughts of the 49th President in her 2018 book, Becoming. Michelle noticed Barack would often be awake at night when they first began dating. She turned to him to ask what he was thinking about and his answer was heartbreaking.
Michelle wrote: “I woke one night to find him staring at the ceiling, his profile lit by the glow of the streetlights outside.
“He looked vaguely troubled, as if he was pondering something deeply personal.
“Was it our relationship? The loss of his father?
“I whispered ‘Hey, what’re you thinking about over there?
“He turned to me, his smile a little sheepish. ‘Oh’ he said.
‘I was just thinking about income inequality.
“I was learning how Barack’s mind worked.”
The heartfelt revelation comes after Michelle confessed to what her and Barack’s life is like after the White House.
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, he asked how “unemployment” is going.
Michelle said: “I was just trying to think of what we’ve been doing but truthfully, we’re boring.
“We have a teenager at home and she makes us feel inadequate everyday.
“So our self-esteem is pretty low.”
