‘Counting On’ Star Joy-Anna Duggar Opens Up About Coping After Her Heartbreaking Miscarriage

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for Counting On stars Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth. A few weeks ago, the couple revealed on Instagram that they had suffered a miscarriage five months into her pregnancy. With a black-and-white photo of her husband comforting her in her hospital bed, Joy-Anna wrote in the caption that the baby didn’t have a heartbeat when she went in for her 20-week ultrasound and gender reveal. Now she is opening up about coping with the heartbreaking loss.

In one post, she admits that the days are still hard, but she is getting through her loss with ice cream, praying, and crying. In another post she opened up about missing her little girl.

“Yes, those days come that I miss my little girl so much. Wishing I could have met her, seen Austin love on her and Gideon play with her.” She wrote on the post. “Yet, God has given us so much comfort. People say that I am strong, but I am not. It is Jesus’ strength that has carried me through. He’s given me a peace that passes all understanding and he has given me His JOY.”

In a July 4th post, the 21-year-old explained that it had been one week since she went in for her ultrasound, and the doctor told her that they couldn’t find a heartbeat or see any movement. However, they did tell Joy-Anna that she was carrying a baby girl.

Joy-Anna and Austin had picked out the name Annabell Elise, and she explained that Annabell means “God has favored me” and Elise means “God satisfies.” She added that she was comforted to know that the first thing her daughter would see when she opens her eyes is the face of Jesus.

The mom of 16-month-old Gideon says that she and her husband don’t understand why this has happened, but God has given them unexplainable peace and comfort. However, “it still hurts and we have cried countless tears,” wrote Joy-Anna.

The Counting On star also added a Bible verse in the caption and said she and Austin know that they can trust the Lord during this difficult time. She finished up the post by sharing lyrics to the hymn All The Way My Savior Leads Me by Fanny Crosby.

Immediately, the messages of support started pouring in from fans, with many sharing their own heartbreaking miscarriage stories. Joy-Anna’s big sister Jessa – who just gave birth to her daughter Ivy Jane Seewald – was one of many who wrote a loving message.

“We love y’all so much and we grieve with you over this loss. I love the name you chose and the meaning behind it,” wrote Jessa.

Joy-Anna’s sister-in-law Anna, who is expecting a baby girl this fall, wrote that she is heartbroken over Joy-Anna and Austin’s loss, and she looks forward to seeing Annabel in heaven.
