Snapchat down – Messaging app not working as users hit by bizarre typing glitch

Snapchat appears to have been hit by a strange glitch tonight.

Thousands of users are reporting the popular app is down and not working with many complaining that they are not getting messages and they are seeing people typing replies but nothing then appears.

The error, which started at around 10pm BST, seems to be mainly affecting those in the UK and Europe.

Downdector, which uses social mentions to map outages, is showing thousands of complaints which spread from London to Liverpool and across the channel to Paris and the Netherlands.

Users have taken to the Down Detector’s forum to complain about the problems with one user saying: “I’m not receiving messages and it is saying people are typing when they haven’t even opened the message, or so Snapchat says.”

And another added: “Snapchat is saying people are typing but then nothing shows up?”

Fans of the popular app have also taken to social media with one user tweeting: “@snapchatsupport sort yourself out. It’s saying people are typing when they’ve not even read it and messages are coming through from 23 mins ago.”

And another added: “Keep thinking my crush is ignoring me then I just realise Snapchat is down once again.”

There’s currently no word on what is causing the problems or when it will be fixed.

Snapchat’s Twitter support page is yet to offer any updates but if the problems persist then we can expect news to be published soon.

The only message posted so far today from this helpline came this morning the service saying: “We’re aware of an issue preventing a small number of Snapchatters from logging in. Hang tight – we’re working on it!”

This latest outage comes after the app had more issues at earlier this month which left many unable to access the service.
