Orange is the New Black season seven brings to an end many of the long-running subplots from the Netflix series, including the relationship between Cindy Hayes (played by Adrienne C Moore) and her daughter Monica (Donshea Hopkins). Monica’s dad is revealed in the Netflix series to be called Curtis (Curtiss Cook Jr). OITNB season six last year featured an episode which reveals how Cindy’s daughter was conceived.
Who is Monica’s dad in Orange is the New Black?

In Orange is the New Black season six, episode two, titled S***storm Coming, we find out that Cindy’s daughter’s father is Curtis, a boy from her school.
In that episode, there is a flashback to Cindy aged 16 (Abena Mensa-Bonsu).
We see her and Curtis having sex in their high school gym.

They are nearly caught by their school friends, who mock Curtis for cheating on his girlfriend with Cindy.
Later in the episode, Cindy refuses to reveal the identity of the child’s dad to her own father Lucas Hayes (Kelvin Hale).
When Monica is born, Cindy gives her to her mother Lillian (Natalie Carter) to raise as her own.
This remains the case until season seven, when Taystee (Danielle Brooks) sent a letter to Monica which revealed her true parentage to her.

Before this, Cindy had been making amends with her family after being released from prison.
However, this letter leads to a confrontation between Cindy and Lillian which leads to the former being kicked out of the house.
In OITNB, Cindy then ends up homeless, living in a tent while working at a care home.
Although Cindy and Monica are able to reconnect in the final series, we do not see the child reuniting with Curtis.
As such, we are led to believe he never wanted anything to do with the child he conceived with Cindy.

Speaking to Refinery29, Adrienne C Moore shared what she thought the future would hold for Cindy.
She said: “I think she’ll use her humor [sic] to work with the elderly community at the home she was working in and become a light and joy for the people who are around her.
“I hope that she’ll find love. That was one territory we didn’t explore with Cindy — her love life.
“And taking on that responsibility as a mother, and repairing her relationship with her mom. I’m hopeful for her.”
