Holly Willoughby: This Morning presenter’s pal speaks out on replacing her co-star

Celebrity Juice host Keith Lemon, 46, – real name Leigh Francis – fronted the ITV show alongside Holly Willoughby, 38, and Fearne Cotton, 37, up until the latter’s departure last December.

Following her exit from the show, she was replaced by regular guest Paddy McGuinness, 45.

Paddy insisted he wasn’t nervous about stepping into Fearne’s shoes as he had been a guest on the show every series.

He said: “It was one of them gigs where… I was on the first ever show and have done every series since, so it didn’t feel like I had to meet everyone for the first time.

“I knew everyone, even the people behind the cameras so for me it just felt like a natural thing.

“We had a fantastic series and I can’t wait to start on the new one.”

Fearne left the show after 10 years to focus on other work commitments.

Discussing her exit with Lorraine Kelly, 59, earlier this year, she said: “I did 10 brilliant years there and 20 series and I loved it so, so much and I’ll walk away missing the gang massively.

“I think you need to have change and have a shake-up in life every now and again and take risks and feel a bit scared again.”

After learning of her exit, Keith said Holly Willoughby told Paddy he has “big shoes to fill” during the show’s wrap party.

Keith explained: “I remember at the wrap party, Holly saying to Paddy, ’You have big shoes to fill’, but look at us, look at us three.

“It was a right touching moment for me, I really enjoyed that moment. We had a little three-way hug.”

Laughing, Paddy added he doesn’t remember the moment as the trio had been drinking Sambuca.

Keith went on to say he had thought about pulling the plug on the show after learning Fearne had quit.

He said: “Initially, when Fearne phoned me and told me she was leaving I said ‘Right, I’m going to leave then,’ and then I thought about it overnight and was like, we would still have a good time. It’s a lot of fun.

“It’s one night a week, so why am I going to leave that? Then I thought, I hope Holly doesn’t say the same, but Holly went, ‘So, who are we going to get then?’

“And I said, ‘What are you still in?’ And she said, ‘Of course I am,’ and then Paddy was the first name we both said.”

Holly previously said she was surprised by Fearne’s decision to leave the show.

Reflecting on the time Fearne told her the news over the phone, Holly told Press Association: “I knew something was up because she called me and she never calls me!

“She texts me a gazillion times, she’s fast at texting. When my phone rang and it was her I was like, ‘What’s happened?’ – I knew she was going to tell me something big.”

She added: “I was sad because I’m going to miss her. You never want anything to end, it’s been brilliant and such fun and I love the fact that I’ve had my friend there with me every series.”

Elsewhere, Keith and Paddy have teamed up to launch their first ever live cinema experience, MovieFest.
