The Night King (Played by Vladimír Furdík) was perhaps one of the most notorious Game of Thrones villains to date as he advanced into Winterfell to launching a legendary attack.
The series saw the cursed leader of the White Walkers massacre countless people in the Battle of Winterfell, but could things have played out differently should the Night King have been taken over by another being?
Taking to Reddit, one user shared an alternative ending that could have seen Jon Snow (Kit Harington) sacrifice himself for the good of the Kingdom rather than Daenerys (Emilia Clarke).
In a lengthy Reddit post the fan described becoming the Night King as a curse that means the soul becomes more and more corrupt as the years go by.
Fans may remember the curse lasts for thousands of years, at which point the soul is corrupted and the person inside no longer has control.
The viewer took to the site to discuss an alternative fate for Jon Snow, that involved him sacrificing himself and becoming the new Night King.
The user said: “What if, the Night king’s curse has already lasted for over a 1000 years and that’s why he is invading Westeros?
“Even if all mankind would fight together, they can’t defeat death. But, what if, somebody would choose to become the new Night king?
“Of course, I’m speaking of Jon Snow, who would sacrifice himself in order to rescue his Kingdom (that’s something a real King should do) even if his Kingdom wouldn’t have a King anymore.
“And to protect his love – even he would leave her forever! So, he becomes the new Night King and leads the White Walker far into the North.”

If Jon Snow sacrificed himself, this would also mean Daenerys Targaryen would still be alive.
The fan went on to theorise what the show would have been like should she have survived.
The user added: “Since Jon Snow isn’t anymore, the rightful heir to the throne is Daenerys, because they married before Jon Snow sacrified himself.
“But: Facing that her love is gone forever and additional facing that even her Dragons couldn’t save her drives Daenerys more and more insane.”
Could there have been an ending that saw Daenerys survive?
Moreover, the theory seems to suggest Daenerys still becomes the mad Queen fans saw a glimpse of towards the end of the season.
The theory comes after director Miguel Sapochnik spoke out about the famous scene that saw Arya (Maisie Williams) kill the Night King, revealing it could have played out very differently.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director said: “At one point there was an elaborate plan to have her fight her way into the Weirwood forest, but as we progressed we realised she’d already done that earlier in the episode, so it felt like a repeat.”
“In the end we felt it didn’t matter how she got there – what mattered was setting up that moment when the Night King catches her mid-leap and we think she’s done for, then she pulls her knife switch and takes him out.”
Miguel added: “I loved Maisie’s performance post the takedown as well, sharing a moment with her brother, Bran. That weary smile. ‘Not today.’”
