Cristiano Ronaldo lays into Barcelona star Lionel Messi in GOAT debate

Ronaldo and Messi are considered two of the best players to ever grace a football pitch.

Both men have broken nearly all records set before them and have each won the Ball d’Or on five occasions.

However, Ronaldo feels he has accomplished more because he has been so successful at numerous clubs.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and now Juventus, the striker has flourished in every squad.

In comparison, Messi has remained at Barcelona since joining from Newell’s Old Boys in 2001.

“The difference between me and him is that I went to different clubs and won the Champions League,” Ronaldo told DAZN.

“I have been Champions League top scorer six times in a row.

“There are many players who have won the Cup five times. I identify myself with this competition.

“Messi is an excellent player, he will not only be remembered for the Ballon d’Or but also for being always at the top, year after year, like me.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo also hailed former boss Zinedine Zidane for the impact he had on his career.

“The confidence that a player needs doesn’t only come from the player himself, but also the people around him, the other players, the coach,” he added.

“You need to feel like you’re an important part of the group, and Zidane made me feel special.

“He helped me a lot. I already had a lot of respect for him, but working with him made me admire him all the more, because of what he’s like as a person, how he talks, how he led the team and how he treated me.

“He’d say to me: ‘Cris, relax, go out and play your game – you’re the one who’s going to make the difference’.

“He was always honest, and that’s why I’ll always have real affection for him.”
