PUBG Mobile update release date, server downtime news confirmed for 0.14.0 patch

A new PUBG Mobile update is being released later this week by Tencent.

The news was confirmed earlier this month by the game’s support team, who have now shared the official release date and launch schedule.

We now know that PUBG Mobile update 0.14.0 will be launched on Wednesday, August 14, but not before scheduled server downtime.

Tencent has revealed that this will start at around 1am in the UK on August 13. So fans will need to be prepared for some disruption before the next major update is released for PUBG Mobile.

It appears that downtime will last several hours on Tuesday, followed by a waiting period for the next phase of the patching process.

Tencent has in the past waited around 24-hours before launching a new update after server downtime. So this would suggest the 0.14.0 download will not appear for most gamers until the early hours of August 14.

And it should also be noted that this is a global launch, meaning that some PUBG players will receive the new update before others.

Here’s the latest news from Tencent, which confirms: “Experience PUBG MOBILE from the other side of undeath in Update 0.14.0 coming August 14! Take the role of a zombie, and stagger in search of the living in the new Infection Mode!

“In preparation for Update 0.14.0, we’ll be taking the PUBG MOBILE Servers down for maintenance from 00:00:00 to 04:00:00 (UTC) on August 13th. Are you ready to search for treasure?”

As mentioned above, a main part of the new PUBG Mobile update will be the new infection mode.

This will split players into teams, with some taking the roles of the undead attackers. After the match starts, players are randomly divided into Zombies and Defenders, with the defenders able to use firearms.

The new PvP mode will allow Zombies to only use melee attacks and abilities with cooldown times.

The good news is that zombies can be revived after being defeated by Defenders, while Defenders will be turned into Zombies after being killed by Zombies. It sounds pretty tough for the defending team, with a growing number of threats popping up on the island.

However, if one Defender survives, then the Defenders win and that’s going to make things pretty interesting when it comes to tactics.

This is a large chunk of the new update but is by no means the only new things being added to the game.

Tencent is also applying new features to the game which should make things a little easier for Android gamers.

This includes reducing the size of the Android installation package and adding the Resource Expansion Pack. This contains some rarely used equipment and resources that are displayed with a placeholder icon unless the Pack is downloaded.

More details on the other changes coming to PUBG Mobile can be found in the beta patch notes shared earlier this month by Tencent.
