Pointless: 'No!' Alexander Armstrong scolds celeb for forgetting how BBC show works

Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman returned this evening with a host of stars for a special 70’s edition of Pointless Celebrities.

Bay City Rollers star Les McKeown and radio DJ David Jensen, actors Diane Keen and Martin Jarvis, actors Robin Askwith and Liza Goddard and singers Isla St Clair and Patti Boulaye were today’s celebrities.

For the first round, the contestants had to name “UK cities with five or more letters in their name”.

After Les had scored an impressive 20, it was up to David to give the final answer for the first round.

David needed to score 88 or less to progress into the next round but he answered incorrectly with, ‘Weston-super-Mare.”

“Oh no!” Alexander cried out as a shocked David remarked: “Wow,” and then embraced his teammate Les.

Alexander said: “Oh no, David. Oh no, Les. I’m afraid that scores you 100 points. It takes your total up to 120.”

“Is that a good thing? Les quipped to which a stunned Alexander answered: “No! No, it’s not.”

“It’s a good thing if you’re Patti and Isla,” Richard quipped. “It’s a very good thing.”

He added: “It’s not a city I’m afraid, you know what you could have said any answer, even London would have seen you through on this one, but Weston-super-Mare – not a city.”

Earlier in the show, Patti added 100 points to her and Isla’s score with the answer Saddleworth leaving the pair to believe they would be leaving in the first round.

“Oh I’m sorry,” Alexander remarked.

“Show’s you how much I know about the UK,” Patti joked.

“That’s an incorrect answer,” Alexander confirmed. “It’s a brilliantly random and specific incorrect answer but I’m afraid it is an incorrect answer.

“Scores 100 points, takes your total up to 109.”
