Mark Jordon: ‘Watching it dwindle’ Emmerdale star on how court battle ruined wedding plans

Emmerdale actor Mark Jordon, 54, was cleared of unlawfully wounding a pensioner who he bit following a row in a beer garden.

During the trial earlier this month, Mark was also cleared of affray and assault.

Now, the actor has spoken out on how the trial affected his wedding plans to his fiancée and co-star Laura Norton, 36.

Mark and Laura got engaged earlier this year and have been saving for their big day.

But, Mark insisted the pair have had to start saving again after spending their wedding funds on court fees.

He told the Mirror: “I was at home watching the wedding fund being spent on barristers fees. Watching it dwindle.

“But now we can start all over we’re already discussing plans.

“Now I’m finally looking forward to what’s around the corner.”

During the trial, Mark claimed he bit Andrew Potts, 68, in self defence when the pensioner attacked him following an altercation outside the Farrars Arms in Oldham on July 1 last year.

The trial heard the row started in a beer garden where the actor was celebrating his engagement with Laura.

The court heard the argument began over when Andrew’s partner Rosalind O’Neill made a comment about the actor’s daughter, Poppy, 18.

Mark claimed he was trying to grab a phone off of Andrew, who he said called the teenager a “s**g” and claimed he had a video of her which he would post on YouTube, which Andrew denied.

The pensioner told the court Mark screamed: “I’ll f*****g kill you, you old b*****d.”

Following the final verdict, Mark revealed how the case affected his life and relationship.

He added: “One week after our engagement Laura should have been floating on air, making plans, looking for venues, drawing up guest lists.

“But for over a year she didn’t get that opportunity. It took all the enjoyment away.”

He added: “I’ve never been a Friday night in the pub fella, but we did like to go out every now and then for meals.

“But for a year I wasn’t going out because I was assuming people would be negative and judgemental.”

The actor went on to say he believes he was “portrayed as a violent drunk,” as he clarified he had “never been in a fight before”.

“It’s been an education, but not one I would have chosen,” he concluded.

Emmerdale continues tomorrow on ITV at 7pm.
