Debbie McGee: 'Never said this on air’ Strictly star opens up about nose job 'secret'

Debbie McGee, 60, opened up about a time when she felt desperate to alter her appearance to look more like her sister Donna. The former magician’s assistant admitted she had never spoken about the issue on air before, as she opened up about wanting a “nose job” on her BBC Radio Berkshire show. Debbie got onto the subject when she suggested she “doesn’t suit” certain hats, because they make her “nose look big”. The Strictly Come Dancing finalist giggled as she explained: “I don’t suit caps, they make my nose look big.”

She went on to add: “This is a little Debbie secret that I told somebody yesterday actually.

“My sister, who looks very like me and she’s 16 months younger than me, when we were teenagers and we had groups of friends the boys used to say to me, ‘You’d be as pretty as your sister if your nose was smaller.’

“So can you imagine? For years being told that from when you’re about 14.”

The star revealed she struggled to get over the cruel comments from the boys, as she continued: “I had such a thing about my nose.

“I kept asking my parents if I could have a nose job.”

Fortunately, Debbie’s co-star reassured her: “I’ve never even looked at your nose before.”

The star caused a stir while discussing her colleague’s faulty microphone, which prompted him to speak into the device on air from a slightly unexpected position.

Debbie explained to listeners: “Things are happening. I think that there’s gremlins in the studio this morning because I’ve just looked across at Rob and his microphone, which are these huge bulbous things we have that are fixed permanently in front of us.

“Rob’s has fallen out of its cradle and it’s on a wire hanging, swinging, with red tape holding it together. Rob, what have you been up to?”

“I’m having to lean on the table to talk into it. If the engineer is listening, I am planning to fix it before the end of the show”, Rob replied.

In response, Debbie took the opportunity to mischievously joke: “Oh I just thought you were getting down on your hands and knees to me.”

Rob laughed along with the radio personality’s remark as he said: “Not this morning yet. We normally wait until about quarter to 11 for that.”
