Carol Smillie husband: TV star on 'ridiculous' relationship questions for Loose Women job

Carol Smilie will appear on Pointless tonight in a special celebrity edition of the show. She will take to the stage alongside Loose Women star Andrea Mclean and other television presenters. Also joining the show are Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom, Katy Brand and Su Pollard, and Syd Little and Eddie Large.Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman return to present for the evening.

Carole Smillie married restauranteur Alex Knight in 1991 at Gleddoch House, in Langbank, near Glasgow.

Her relationship experiences became the focal point of an interview question when she was interviewed for a position on chat show Loose Women.

She told the Daily Express she was asked invasive questions about her past relationships nearly 20 years into her marriage.

Carole said: “I eventually got in to see them and I had this weird interview where the producer said, ‘So, tell me about your romantic past’, and I said, ‘What do you mean?’ and he said, ‘Well, how many boyfriends have you had?”

“I thought, ‘Are you allowed to say that?’ It’s ridiculous.

“I’d been married, at that point, for about, I don’t know, 15 or 20 years, and I said, ‘I’m still very happily married and it’s only fair that you have a good mix of women who have had divorces, some who are still married, some who are single, some who are young and some who are old,.’

“He was like, ‘Hmm… You know they all go on holiday together?’

“I said, ‘Is that a proviso?’ and he was like, ‘No, but you know’.”

Carole and Alex have three children together, Christie, 23, Robbie, 22, and Jodie, who is 20.

She told the Daily Record her and Alex are not forcing a “masterplan” on them.

She said: “If it was something they wanted to do, I would not discourage them but I am glad they are going down their own routes.

“None of the kids have a masterplan, which Alex and I are totally OK with at this stage in their lives.

“At some point in the near future, they will have to knuckle down.

“We won’t be their safety net forever.

“My husband and I have worked hard all our lives.

“I had a mortgage and pension plan at 21 and Alex spent decades running four restaurants.”
