PS4 shock update: Massive PS Store download no longer an exclusive PlayStation game?

PS4 owners will soon be able to download and play a big exclusive game from the PlayStation Store.

Just before the end of 2019, Death Stranding will be hitting shelves, a hotly anticipated new title from Hideo Kojima.

And with PlayStation 4 sales just passing 100 million shipped to retailers, there seems little doubt that Death Stranding is going to be big.

Even if it only sells an average number, the amount of good press from having Death Stranding associated with the PlayStation brand has no doubt boosted it.

“In the near future, mysterious explosions have rocked the planet, setting off a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding,” the official description explains.

“With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and the planet on the verge of a mass extinction, it’s up to Sam Bridges to journey across the ravaged wasteland and save mankind from impending annihilation.

“From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying experience for the PlayStation 4 system.”

But something curious has happened recently that suggests a big PS4 shock could be on the way.

The official PlayStation website includes a page where all the major PS4 exclusives are listed.

And that page just so happens to have been updated, reportedly removing Death Stranding from the listing, via PCgamesN.

Checking out today does indeed show that Death Stranding is no longer next to titles like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.

This is great news for gamers on other platforms hoping to avoid purchasing a PS4 so they can play Death Stranding.

It doesn’t confirm whether or not DS is a PlayStation exclusive but this change should be tweaked in the coming days if it is not.

There were previous reports stating that Death Stranding would be a timed exclusive which would eventually launch on PC.

The bad news for Xbox One gamers is that nothing has so far connected the Kojima project to the Xbox One, or Project Scarlett.

It was recently revealed that Death Stranding would have an interesting approach to multiplayer.

According to the official game site, players will be able to ‘assist other players, adding: “Help other travellers without ever crossing paths via asynchronous online gameplay.

“Send supplies, share safe houses and walk in the footsteps of fellow couriers to reunite civilisation.”

Death Stranding currently has a PS4-only release date set for November 8, 2019.
