The One Show: 'What's happening?' Mel B exposes blunder as Matt Baker halts set chaos

Mel B, 44, made an appearance on The One Show after the Spice Girls recently reunited for a nation wide concert tour.

The pop star joined BBC show hosts Matt Baker, 41, and stand-in host Michelle Ackerley, 35, who is manning the fort this week as Alex Jones, 41, continues her maternity leave.

As the norm, Matt and Michelle began the show on the sofas with a studio audience standing behind the cameras.

Welcoming Mel from the wings just moments after the show went on air, the presenters weren’t expecting their guest to suffer a blunder as she made her way to them on the set.

With the camera turning from the presenters to the walkway where Mel would appear from backstage, the Spice Girl almost lost her footing as it seemed she had been ushered on although she was unprepared.

Mel continued to make her way to the presenters regardless but when she got to Matt and Michelle, the pop star explained what had happened.

After exchanging pleasantries, Mel told Matt and Michelle: “Did you see your producer just pushed me on just then?”

Where Matt seemed to dismiss the comment as he and Michelle nervously giggled, Mel exclaimed: “What is going on?”

Making light of the situation, Michelle quipped: “You’ve got to be careful in your heels as well.”

The pop star was un-phased by the mishap however and continued to speak about her upcoming projects, including an animated Spice Girls Movie.

Mel also spoke about the infamous pop group’s past, with Geri Horner, 47, quitting the Spice Girls back in 1998.

Discussing how Geri made amends during their recent concert tour, Mel said: “She [Geri] never actually got to do Wembley Stadium with us.

“So this time around we got to do it, us four, and on the last night she said, “I do want to say something to you all,” Mel continued, telling the hosts Geri spoke to them in front of a 90,000 strong crowd.

“She said, ‘I’m sorry for leaving you guys and it really crushed me to see you’d all go on.’

“I was like, ‘Did you really think that we were all of a sudden going to stop and disappoint all the fans?’”

Speaking of her reaction to Geri’s initial departure from the group, Mel said: “Of course we were all offended and hurt but the show must go on.

“She [Geri] just stood on stage and looked us in the eye and she apologised and we just all started crying,” Mel added.

“It just sealed that thing that we have with each other which is really special and only us five went through that.”

As The One Show continues this summer, Michelle will fill in for Alex over the course of the next fortnight.

Alex is expected to return alongside Matt in the autumn.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
