The Future Of Artificial Intelligence to Teach Socio Economic Theory and Create Group Discourse

Not long ago, a fellow author and economic philosopher, Bekuzulu Khumalo, allowed me the privilege of reviewing the first chapter of a book he’s been working on. It consists of a group discussion in an academic philosophical setting where intellectuals from around the world ponder issues of socio-economic realities and efficiencies of markets. In reviewing this first chapter, quite good in fact, I wondered if it were possible to teach a computer to write discourse like that, so I asked him;

Do you think we could program an AI computer to take fragments from the Internet, recombine the comments on economic blogs and forums and then have the computer make a story like this? If so, there are decent applications for it. For instance, it might be good for teaching socio-economic theory, something that we very much need in our society.

Consider the way we have socialism creeping into our society, as more and more people vote for candidates that offer them free stuff? That’s just unsustainable and such practice has bankrupt enough countries throughout history that well, people shouldn’t seal their own economic demise in that way. Now then, what if we could take such problems in our civilization whatever they might be, and tell stories, and create dialogues getting people to think? We might prevent catastrophic economic collapse in this case, but we might also prevent other challenges to our future as well.

You see, I’ve become concerned that folks just aren’t getting it these days. They listen to trite discussions on TV, supposedly intellectual arguments, but so shallow in information, and while in school all we seem to do is require rote memorization, with less and less thinking. In our modern society that just isn’t sufficing and we need only look at the current reality and state of things to see that. Maybe this format of dialogues in a storyline is the proper way to engage our student’s minds and prepare them for the future?

Maybe Plato’s dialogues in the Olive Orchards were similar to this, maybe that’s why it worked for them? Just think if we would have had a video tape of all those discussions and lectures? What if the old Geological Society had all their sessions taped too? Why not consider doing that in the present day and then for everyone’s benefit put it all online and press replay? Or better yet, why not take dialogues and discourses from the Internet and allow an AI computer to sort it all out, allowing for different views on important topics, real intellectual debate to be recombined? Indeed, it is my hope that you will please consider all this and think on it all.
