BBC News: 'We can't' Dan Walker drops Louise Minchin Strictly Come Dancing bombshell

BBC Breakfast host Mike Bushell was confirmed as one of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing contestants last week.

This morning his co-presenters Dan Walker and Louise Minchin spoke about the popular BBC series noting there are still some slots left to fill.

However, both presenters denied they would be taking part on the series.

Dan began: “There are a few spots left on Strictly to announce, we’re still waiting for the final…

“You’re not doing that this year are you? You’ve not kept that a secret from me as well have you? No?” he continued, turning to Louise.

“Have you seen my jump over the finish line? Do I look like I would be able to do Strictly? No!” she replied.

Dan went on to note both he and Louise wouldn’t be able to compete on this year’s series.

“Actually we can’t have two people from breakfast on it because the one and only Mike Bushell is the BBC breakfast representative,” he explained.

Louise smiled: “That was one of the only bits of news I pretty much saw in the last week which is very exciting.”

“You invited everyone to your birthday party and I did see Mike Bushell putting some serious moves on the dance floor, unconventional I would say,” Dan laughed.

Louise told viewers: “Actually, Dan even danced as well.”

“I just put a little shift in, the problem with me, I need a big space,” Dan explained.

Moving the segment along, Louise said: “Yes, so a few spots left then.”

Also on this morning’s show, Louise spoke about her time completing the Norseman in Norway.

In a short video, she could be seen taking part in the triathlon with support from her father, husband and daughter.

When asked how she felt watching her performance back, Louise sighed: “Exhausted!”

“What point during that run, does your body just?” Dan asked.

“I was sort of okay until 10km, the one thing I had not trained for was the heat,” Louise remarked.

Dan joked that while Louise was busy completing the Norseman, he had a very “arduous” tennis match with an eight-year-old.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
