Why has Meghan Markle started wearing new ring? It gives this nod to the Royal Family

Meghan Markle married the Queen’s grandson, Prince Harry, 34, at Windsor Castle on 19 May 2018. Since then, they have had one child together, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, three months. Whenever she steps out, the Duchess always looks stylish and she has recently started wearing a new piece of jewellery which could have a royal link. The piece is similar to designs worn by other royals and Meghan could be making a nod to her new Royal Family, an expert explained.

Meghan has been spotted wearing a small gold signet ring from a London based jewellers, giving a nod to her new home of the UK and Claire Adler, luxury public relations consultant and jewellery specialist, revealed the ring’s British links.

She told Express.co.uk: “Meghan is wearing the Durga ring by Pippa Small who has a shop in Notting Hill’s fashionable Westbourne Grove and who was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 2013 for her ethical jewellery and charity work.”

By choosing to wear this design, the Duchess is making a nod to something close to her heart with ethical jewellery and charity work and the designer’s MBE status reveals this is also important to the royals.

As well as wearing this design, the Duchess has been spotted wearing a similar ring from another British based designer, Missoma.

“Meghan was spotted wearing a gold signet of similar design from Missoma, which promptly flew off the e-shelves after eagle-eyed fans made the connection,” Claire explained.

“The latest addition to Meghan’s jewellery collection, a simple band with a flat gold coin is a modern take on the classic signet and is as restrained and tasteful as we have come to expect from the Duchess.”

The signet ring is also similar to styles worn by other royals, including her father-in-law, Prince Charles, so Meghan could be giving a nod here and to their popularity in her new home of the UK.

Claire told Express.co.uk: “In Britain, signet rings have always been a sign of wealth and status and back in the Middle Ages they were used to stamp or sign documents.

“Many brands like Burberry and Gucci are currently celebrating the bold logos of the 80s. People like the freedom to express themselves by wearing more jewellery and the signet ring is an old British classic.”

Meghan may also have chosen to wear the ring could be trying to drum down the attention around her with the modest design, Claire explained.

“The ring’s simplistic style makes it an easy everyday piece and considering the scrutiny she is under, carries no risk of being seen as too flashy,” she said.

The Duchess’ engagement ring revealed a key detail about her role in the Royal Family, an expert explained.

When Prince Harry proposed, he gave Meghan a stunning trilogy engagement ring which was very unique compared to pieces of jewellery worn by other royals.

At her wedding, Meghan borrowed the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau tiara from the Queen’s royal collection.

The tiara was originally gifted from the County of Lincoln to Queen Mary in 1893 and cost an estimated £2 million, an expert revealed.

Their relationship began in October that year and just over one year later, on November 27, 2017, the pair announced their engagement.

They married on May 19, 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Meghan’s heritage

Some have claimed Meghan Markle is the first mixed-race member of the Royal Family.

Historians are still arguing about Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.

But Meghan will be the first royal to openly embrace a mixed-race heritage.

She has written about the difficulties of being a biracial actress in Hollywood as she claims she is not black enough for some roles and not white enough for others.
