Olivia Newton-John gives health update on stage four cancer as she sells off belongings

Olivia Newton-John, 70, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, which resulted in a tumour in her lower spine.

Speaking to 60 Minutes, she said: “It’s something that I’m living with but I don’t see it that way. It’s a choice. Everything’s a choice.

“I see it as something in my body that I’m getting rid of. I don’t talk about a battle or a war,” she added.

“I let it go and tell it to leave and talk to my body and tell it to heal itself.”

Olivia’s daughter Chloe Lattanzi, 33, said she rarely brings up the illness with her mother.

“We don’t talk about it. No, we don’t need to talk about it,” she said, before describing herself as her mother’s “protector”.

Olivia went on to say she refuses to call her cancer a “battle” and said every day is a “gift”.

She added: “My body stopped me in my tracks and said… you can’t move. Now you’re going to have to look at everything and decide what you want to do.

“I’m loving being at home and supporting John [Easterling, her husband] I have things going on but not live performances, so it’s a really lovely time.”

Olivia went on to say she will auction off many of her famous items worn in 1978 movie Grease.

Olivia’s famous leather jacket and tight trousers along with many other items will be up for grabs at Julien’s auction in Los Angeles in November.

All proceeds will go towards her Cancer Wellness & Research Centre, which is raising funds for clinical trials on medicinal marijuana.

The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.

After a partial mastectomy, chemotherapy and breast reconstruction, she beat the disease.

But, Olivia’s cancer reappeared for a second time in 2013 and she underwent treatment again in private.

In May 2017, Olivia learned her cancer had come back for a third time and resulted in a tumour in her lower spine.

The Grease star was told her cancer is stage four and had spread to her bones.

Olivia has been treating her illness with a combination of modern medicines and natural remedies.

Th star’s husband John founded the Amazon Herb Company and grows cannabis which helps treat her.

Olivia said: “In California, it’s legal to grow a certain amount of plants for your own medicinal purposes.

“I’m very lucky that I live in a state where it’s legal and that I have a husband that is a plant-medicine man.”

Back in January, Olivia’s niece and manager hit back at claims the actress had just weeks to live.

American website Radar Online reported a source saying: “Olivia’s bodily functions appear to be shutting down.

“But she refuses to let go until she makes it through her daughter Chloe’s wedding day.”

Olivia’s niece Tottie told Channel Seven: “You can rest assured she is going nowhere.”

The star’s manager Michael Caprio also laughed off the reports calling them “hilarious”.

He told news.com.au: “You might want to get better sources versus reading tabloids.”
