Meghan Markle Had Top Secret Rules For Her Vogue Cover Claims This Hollywood A-Lister

Meghan Markle is the guest editor for the September issue of British Vogue, and actress Salma Hayek says that when the Duchess of Sussex called her and asked her to be on the cover, she had to follow specific rules in order to keep the project top secret. Hayek is one of 15 women who will grace the cover of the “Forces of Change” issue which will hit newsstands later this month.

British Vogue originally asked Markle to be on the cover of the September issue, but she suggested instead that she be the guest editor. The Duchess wanted to put her favorite women on the cover who are doing inspirational work for women’s issues, and Hayek was one of her top choices.

According to CNN, Hayek has worked with women’s charities for 25 years, and when she first got the call from Markle she thought the Duchess was possibly interested in joining forces for a specific organization. Instead, it was an invitation for Hayek to join the top-secret photoshoot, and none of the other women knew the project details.

When the ladies gathered in London, Hayek says she couldn’t talk about who they were shooting for or what the project was. Not only was she not allowed to tell the other women, but she couldn’t tell her family or friends.

“I felt very honored when we did this photoshoot. No one else knew what it was for,” Hayek explained. “Only me and the photographer, Peter Lindbergh, knew. And all the girls were getting their picture taken for the cover and they didn’t know that Meghan was how they got there.”

Hayek says she loves the fact that Markle didn’t want to be on the cover, and instead opted to shine a light on the women who inspire her.

The September issue of British Vogue is the most important issue of the year, as it marks the beginning of the fall/winter fashion season and has the most influence on the industry. It’s essentially a fashion bible, and this is the first time in the magazine’s 103-year history that the magazine has welcomed a guest editor for the September issue.

Markle also reveals in the upcoming issue that she is partnering with her friend – designer Misha Nonoo – to create a women’s workwear line as part of Smart Works, a charity that helps women find employment.
