Euphoria ending explained: Did Rue die in Euphoria finale?

Euphoria season one came to an end last night (Sunday, August 4) on HBO in the US. Luckily, UK fans will be able to watch Euphoria on Sky Atlantic at 10pm tomorrow evening (Tuesday, August 6). Euphoria stars Zendaya as recovering heroin addict Rue, but did she survive the season finale? Here’s a recap of what happened in the Euphoria series finale.

Did Rue die in the Euphoria finale?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers about Euphoria season 1

At the moment, it is unclear if Rue died at the end of Euphoria season one finale.

However, she definitely relapsed after being sober for three months.

Rue is unlikely to be dead as the show has already been commissioned for a second series and Zendaya has confirmed she will reprise her role as Rue, but this has not stopped fans speculating about her fate.

In the final moments of Euphoria season one, episode eight, Rue returned home from her high school prom.

WHO IS JULES IN EUPHORIA?

Rue and her best friend Jules (played by Hunter Schaffer), confessed they both had feelings for each other and decided to run away together.

Just as they arrived at the train station, Rue changed her mind, not wanting to upset her sister Gia (Storm Reid) and her mum Leslie (Nika King) who had done so much for her.

However, Jules, the only friend Rue really had, decided to leave without her.

In a moment of despair and upset, Rue snorted what appeared to be cocaine in her bedroom.

The final moments of the episode then transformed into a music video for Zendaya’s and Labrinth’s new song “All for us.”

The season finale ended with Rue signing in the street: “I hope one of you come back to remind me of who I was when I go disappearing into that good night.”

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER SERIES OF EUPHORIA?

On the other hand, Rue may well have fatally overdosed in the final episode.

She was already in poor health, after suffering from a kidney infection and depression.

The last viewers seen of Rue was her collapsing into the arms of dancers in the street, which may have symbolised her death.

There were many unanswered questions in the season one finale, paving the way for the storyline of season two.

Viewers were left wondering where Jules was running away too. Was she going to meet up with her new girlfriend or will she come back to Rue?

In the final episode, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) had an abortion and was struggling to cope with her loss.

Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Maddy (Alexa Demie) also discovered a graphic sex tape of Nate’s dad (Eric Dane) and Jules but what will they do with it?

There was also a happy ending for some characters in the Euphoria season finale.

Ethan (Austin Abrams) and Kat (Barbie Ferreria) finally had their first kiss, after the season teased a will they/won’t they? storyline.
