Michelle Obama drops shock confession about her marriage to former President Barack

The former First Lady revealed that although young people admire her marriage to Barack, it required work. She said: “There are a lot of young people who look at me and Barack and they think, ‘Oh, I want those #relationshipgoals.’ “But I want young people to know that marriage is work. Even the best marriages require work.”

During the Essence Music Festival, Michelle also talked about her 26 years of marriage to Barack.

She revealed that “marriage is a choice you make everyday”.

She continued: “You don’t do it because it’s easy. You do it because you believe in it. You believe in the other person.”

She also advised the crowd to find a lifetime partner who is their equal.

It comes as rumours about the couple’s marriage being on the rocks have emerged.

However, there does not seem to be any truth to the claims.

During the interview, Michelle also spoke of how she has begun to bond again with her husband now that their children are older.

Praising her husband, Michelle said: “My husband is my teammate and if we are going to win this game together, he has to be strong and he has to be OK with me being strong.”

Away from her husband, Michelle also spoke of her marriage and how its changed since her two daughters have left.

She added: “This is the beauty of finding a partner you really love and respect – because after all the highs and lows, the ups and downs we’ve been through, we have each other, which makes the journey worth it.

“Marriage is all nice and cute but then kids show up and they take up all the oxygen in the land.

“That’s why they make the babies cute because you would leave them at the Post Office.”
