El Paso shooting: Gunman shoots dead 22 in Walmart massacre

Police in the Texas state have received several reports there is more than one shooter. One gunman is armed with an AK-47 rifle, according to a witness. Terrified shoppers ran for cover under tables and desks in the store where 22 people have been shot dead in a shocking act of violence.

Police are said to be still dealing with the shooter.

The store on the Texas boarder is on lockdown.

The El Paso Police Department took to Twitter to release a statement.

They said: “Scene is still Active. We have multi reports of multiple shooters. Please avoid area police conducting search of a very large area. Media staging will be given when area is secure.”

Another person claimed there are at 20 dead, and that his wife was on the scene.

He said: “Wife was almost shot a bullet grazed her shirt at walmart then at the mall when she ran to cielo vista there are several shooters so far 20 dead or injured, sams, walmart and cielo vista mall have active shooters dozens of cops border patrol sheriffs and swat people still trapped.”

The FBI is at the scene too.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said on Twitter: “In El Paso, the Texas Dept. of Public Safety is assisting local law enforcement & federal authorities to bring this tragedy to the swiftest & safest possible conclusion.

“We thank all First Responders for their courageous response & urge all area residents to remain safe.”

Another witness said he is safe but is struggling to get in touch with his friends.

He said: “I was in the area of the shooting, I’m safe, but I haven’t heard from any of my friends since. I’m so f***ing scared.

“I told all my friends, called my boyfriend. There’s rumors of more attacks to happen. I’m so terrified for my city. Stay safe el paso.”

Another social media claims a witness said the men had planned to open fire on El Paso and not just the Walmart store, adding they are part of a suspected crime gang.

There is a now a helecopter and several ambulances on the scene.
