Roman Reigns set to face surprise WWE superstar at SummerSlam after shock SmackDown finish

Reigns has been booked in a storyline that saw him almost getting killed by falling scaffolding backstage just when he was about to give an interview and reveal the person he will face at the biggest WWE event of the summer in Canada.

The Big Dog got back up to his feet but the entire WWE Universe has been wondering who was behind that attack; and it seems like the fans may be set for a huge shock once the reveal is made.

According to the publisher and editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer, Bryan will battle the four-time world champion at SummerSlam and therefore he could be the one behind the assault.

The Planet’s Champion has been teasing a major career-altering announcement for weeks but has refused to share it with the WWE Universe on SmackDown.

The five-time world champion also hinted at a major character switch following a disturbing rant at Extreme Rules where he said he has “to go where Daniel Bryan has not gone before”.

The ex-WWE Champion seems to tick the right boxes for that role but it remains to be seen how WWE could book such an angle with only one week until SummerSlam.

The two popular stars had a number of battles in the past when Bryan was trying to fight off the Authority and Reigns was part of The Shield with Dean Ambrose as well as Seth Rollins.

Their most exciting encounter took place at Fastlane 2015 where The Big Dog stood tall and became the No1 Contender for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 31.

It first looked as though Reigns would battle Samoa Joe at SummerSlam as the two heavyweights have been at each others’ throats on RAW these last few weeks.

The former Universal Champion and Joe got into an intense brawl last Monday night that also saw Drew McIntyre, Cedric Alexander, The Usos as well as RAW Tag Team Champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson of The OC getting involved.

Reigns recently got off a rivalry with Shane McMahon that came to a head at Extreme Rules.

Bryan lost the SmackDown Tag Team Championships with Rowan on the same night in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match that also included Big E and Xavier Woods of The New Day as well as Otis and Tucker of Heavy Machinery.

They New Day picked up the win after hitting The Planet’s Champion with Midnight Hour.

It seems like Bryan and Rowan are done with the tag team division and may not even seek for a rematch.
