Baskets cancelled: Why has Baskets been cancelled? Is season 4 the last series?

Baskets on FX began back in 2016 and has been a cult hit on the television channel in the four seasons since. However, now FX has announced the fourth series will be the last outing for the series. Here’s everything you need to know about why Baskets is ending and how the cast have reacted to the news.

Why has Baskets been cancelled?

Baskets is a black comedy on FX, which was created by Louis CK, Zach Galifianakis and Jonathan Krisel.

The series follows Galifianakis as he stars as two characters simultaneously in the comedy series.

He stars in the dual lead roles of Chip Baskets, a failed professional clown and his twin brother, Dale Baskets.

The show has been running for four series on the US network FX with the last series of the show premiering on June 13, 2019.

However, FX has now confirmed it has cancelled the hit television series, meaning the final episode of the show will be released on August 22.

According to TV Line, the fourth season has been averaging 334,000 total viewers, which is 20 percent lower than the third series.

However, the series did have a lot of critical acclaim with Galifianakis and his co-star Louie Anderson earning Emmy nominations for their roles.

FX head of entertainment Eric Schrier said in a statement regarding the cancellation: “Over four seasons, Baskets has taken its place among the great FX comedies as an endearing and hilarious look at the dreams and ambition of ‘Chip Baskets’ and his extended, loving family.

“This show has been a joy for everyone at FX and we are grateful to Jonathan Krisel, Zach Galifianakis, Louie Anderson, Martha Kelly and the rest of the cast and crew for giving us the gem that is Baskets.”

Kelly, who plays Martha Brook in the series, posted about the cancellation on Twitter.

She wrote: “This is the final season of Baskets. I feel like it ends on a very high note. Could not have asked for a better cast, crew, and network.

“To the 35 people who watched the show: I love you and am grateful to you forever. Unless you support Trump. Sorry byeeeeeeee. (sic)”

She also called out and thanked Galifianakis and the writers of the show on the social media platform.

After the news was announced actor Anderson, who plays Christine in the television show, also posted a clip from the show with the tweet: “Lot’s of Love and Kisses! Ken and Christine!!! @BasketsFX.”

The actor also spoke to Decider recently about the FX series: “There are no shows that have these kinds of people on them. There’s nobody. There’s no 300 plus pound mother on TV of this age and everything. It’s just not there.

“I wrote something to somebody recently after I watched a bunch of episodes – I said the first thing you get out of this show is that it’s not for everyone.

“But it’s for everyone who needs it. It’s such an important show for the people who get a lot out of it.”

Fans will certainly be sad to the comedy-drama go when it finishes on August 22.

The series has been traditionally aired on FOX UK in the United Kingdom but there has been no news yet on when the final series will be released.

Baskets season 4 is currently airing on Thursdays on FX.
