Lord of the Rings tops NEW UK poll of best movie trilogies: Star Wars BEATEN by Pirates

There have been many movie trilogies over the years, with some even being blessed (or burned) by more sequels. Now a new poll of 1000 Brits by Casumo has found that Peter Jackson’s The Lord the Rings trilogy is the UK’s favourite. The fantasy epic based on JRR Tolkien’s classic novel was chosen by more than 1 in 5 voters. Meanwhile, the box office smashing – but mostly critically panned – Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy managed to beat the original Star Wars films by 0.1% of the vote.

Split across age groups, the poll found that Baby Boomers favoured The Godfather and Indiana Jones trilogies, while Millennials were big fans of Pirates of the Caribbean suggesting that films from our childhood and teenage years tend to resonate with us more fondly.

Nevertheless, four out for five age groups ranked The Lord of the Rings as the best trilogy.

Meanwhile, poor old Back to the Future and Terminator trilogies failed to make the Top 3 in any age group.
