13 Reasons Why cancelled: Why is 13 Reason Why ending after season 4 on Netflix?

13 Reasons Why season four has already been confirmed by Netflix ahead of the third series’ release later this month. However, it’s not all good news for 13 Reasons Why fans as the fourth series will be the final ever run of the hard-hitting and at times controversial drama. With news of the cancellation putting a dampener on the upcoming season, fans are desperate to know why 13 Reasons Why has been cancelled.

Why has 13 Reasons Why been cancelled?

WARNING: This article contains spoiler from 13 Reasons Why.

13 Reasons Why season four is already in production following its official renewal by Netflix.

While the season three promo dropped the major bombshell that Bryce Walker (played by Justin Prentice) had died, not many spoilers about the final 13 Reasons Why series are currently known.

The one major talking to take from the renewal, however, is the fact season four will be the very last of the series.

According to Deadline: “The fourth and final season of the Paramount Television and Anonymous Content drama will feature the core cast’s graduation from Liberty High with (Brian) Yorkey serving as showrunner, and executive producer alongside (Mandy) Teefey, (Kristel) Laiblin, (Selena) Gomez and (Joy) Gorman.”

Netflix provided the following statement regarding the decision to cancel the show.

13 REASONS WHY SEASON 4 RELEASE DATE, CAST, TRAILER, PLOT

A Netflix spokesperson told Express.co.uk the reason for 13 Reasons Why ending is because: “Series four will feature the core cast’s graduation from High School which will be a natural conclusion to the show.”

Before 13 Reasons Why season four arrives, fans will get to binge the penultimate series.

Season three was confirmed for release on August 23 following the new trailer’s drop online.

If the promo isn’t enough to send excitement levels sky-high, 13 Reasons Why star Christian Navarro took to Instagram to tease what’s in store.

13 REASONS WHY SEASON 3 TRAILER BREAKDOWN

Navarro wrote on social media: “Lose. Your. Mind. Get Ready. Season three. August 23. Worth the wait. I promise.”

13 Reasons Why has added to the mystery surrounding Bryce’s death by tweeting: “Anyone of them could have done it.”

All 13 episodes of the third season will be released on Netflix at once.

With the season three release date scheduled for August 23, it presented a 15-month wait for new episodes.

If the fourth and final series follows suit, 13 Reasons Why fans can expect the last episodes in autumn 2020.

WHY WAS HANNAH BAKER SCENE EDITED OUT OF 13 REASONS WHY?

The main cast, with the exception of Bryce, will likely reprise their roles one more time in season four.

With reports the Liberty High students will celebrate their graduation in the final outing, it’s unlikely another major death will occur in the penultimate season.

This means there will likely be returns for Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) and adoptive brother Justin Foley (Brandon Flynn).

Zach Dempsey (Ross Butler), Jessica Davis (Alisha Boe) and Tyler Down (Devin Druid) also had their comebacks confirmed in the season three trailer so another appearance in the final series is feasible.

13 Reasons Why season four could also welcome back Alex Standall (Miles Heizer), Tony Padilla (Navarro) and Montgomery de la Cruz (Timothy Granaderos) as well.

13 Reasons Why season 3 is available to stream from Friday, August 23.
