Eamonn Holmes: ‘Difficult to live with’ This Morning host in rare Ruth Langsford admission

“The thing about me, is that I would say that I love Ruth far more than she loves me, but she would say, ‘how do you know how a person feels?’” he added in a chat with Kate Thornton in Yahoo’s podcast White Wine Question Time.

“She’s more English, she’s not like me, I am from a very emotional, very sentimental family, she’s more stiff upper lip, she comes from an army family, but I totally believe that she loves me and adores me.”

“But I would still think that I love her and adore her more,” he added.

Eamonn and Ruth tied the knot at a lavish ceremony in Hampshire in 2010.

The duo share 17-year-old son Jack together, while Eamonn has three other children with his ex-wife Gabrielle.

During the same chat, Eamonn reflected on the moment he realised he wanted to marry Ruth.

The presenter said the duo attended Cheltenham races, where Ruth was enjoying attention from various men.

Reflecting on the time, he added: “They are all around my wife – who’s not my wife at this point.

“She’s loving it, and I thought ‘why isn’t she my wife?’ I just suddenly thought ‘why have I not got that tied up, this suddenly really annoys me’.”

Eamonn went on to say he sent his wife a six-page text which included him popping the question.

But, Ruth didn’t read the text until the pair were in a car on the way home.

He added: “She finally read it and looks at this phone, and I can see this tear coming down her eye, and she texted me back saying ‘yes’.”

Elsewhere last month, Ruth took a break from the show following the death of her sister Julia.

In an Instagram post, she explained: “My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness.

“My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever.”

She added: “As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
