Galaxy Note 10 v Huawei Mate 30 Pro: Why these phones may give fans a tough choice to make

Galaxy Note 10 is expected to release before the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.

That is because Samsung has already pencilled in a date for its next Unpacked event set to take place in New York City on August 7.

Here it is anticipated the South Korean tech giant will lift the lid on its new phablet that has been the subject of numerous rumours and leaks recently.

The most prominent of which came from renders courtesy of OnLeaks and Pricebaba – the phone was showcased with a new all-screen design on its front.

As corroborated in a series of other outings, it seems as though the Note 10 will come with minimal bezels around its panel but have a cutout within its display for a single front-facing camera.

Unlike Samsung’s S10 series though, it has been tipped the Note 10’s hole punch will be positioned in the middle of the device at the top rather than off to the side.

The Note 10 has been tipped to arrive in two models – one with a 6.28-inch display and another with a colossal 6.75-inch panel.

The former is expected to come with three cameras on its rear comprised of a primary, telephoto and ultra wide-angle sensor.

Meanwhile, the larger product, claimed to be called the Galaxy Note 10+, is anticipated to come with four lenses on its rear thanks to the inclusion of an additional time-of-flight (TOF) module.

If accurate, this means the hardware could have a photography offering similar to that of the Galaxy S10 5G.

Notable tipster Roland Quandt has claimed the standard Note 10 will start at €999 (£895.67) and the Note 10+ from €1,149 (£1,030.16), meaning the phone could be priced fairly similarly to its predecessor at launch.

Huawei’s presumably titled Mate 30 Pro handset has not been subject to as many leaks, meaning less details about the phone have been discussed overall.

With that said, the phone is expected to come with an improved camera system over the Mate 20 Pro, faster internals and has been tipped to flaunt a bigger display.

Tipster Ice Universe recently took to Twitter and posted a claimed “protective film” for the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, potentially outing its front design.

The protector was showcased with incredibly small bezels on its sides and bottom but with a noticeable notch at its top.

Five holes were present on the film, suggesting Huawei’s next Mate device could once again flaunt a facial recognition system.

When we reviewed the Huawei Mate 20 Pro last year we were extremely impressed with how fast, and most importantly secure, it was in this regard.

The 2018 device featured a dot projector, 24-megapixel front camera, flood illuminator, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and IR camera that allowed for face unlocking.

Following this leak, Ice Universe then put together a rendering of each device and placed them side-by-side to showcase their design differences.

The Note 10 was displayed looking undeniably more futuristic than its Chinese rival – the phone touted a higher screen to body ratio, too.

While the alleged Mate 30 Pro image certainly looked less innovative, its biggest advantage over the Note 10 could be its ability to offer more secure facial unlocking.

All told, this could force Android fans to make a tough choice if they are looking to pick up either device upon release – decide between a more futuristic-looking phone or one that offers better facial detection.

It is worth noting neither the Note 10 or Mate 30 Pro have been officially confirmed by either Samsung or Huawei respectively, meaning both designs shown by Ice Universe could be subject to change.
